FLIGHT INSTRUCTOR DEVELOPS
TECHNIQUE FOR DEALING WITH FEAR OF FLYING

Owen Blickensderfer, part time flight instructor and amateur psychologist thinks he discovered the best method for overcoming a fear of heights. "When you have a fear of something, and it can be absolutely anything, you must face that fear head-on," says Mr. Blickensderfer. The Mott North Dakota natives method requires the sufferer to lay across the wing of an airplane while Mr. Blickensderfer flies once around the traffic pattern. "We just keep going around the patch until the victim stops showing symptoms of fear when we leave the ground." Mr. Blickensderfer claims that if the sufferer does not experience relief after three or four takeoffs and landings, he cannot and will not be cured. "If I cannot help him, the victim will have to resort to powerful medications to ease the symptoms of this debilitating disease.
